How to (really) hydrate my skin?

By Gabriela Cambero

It was recently revealed to me that my skin is not hydrated enough. This came as a bit of a shock as I’m obsessed with drinking water (because hydration comes from the inside!) and with my skincare routine, which of course, includes a moisturising/hydrating cream every morning and evening.

The diagnostic was made with a Visia machine, which will scan your skin and measure things like pore openness, redness, amount of wrinkles and spots (both visible and future, hiding underneath the first layer of the skin). We discovered I have many micro-wrinkles (not from expression, like smiling or frowning) and redness in the cheeks, both of which are symptoms of a dehydrated skin.

As a journalist, I often get gifted very nice skincare products to try, and I like to try them all! This, however, is not great for your skin, I learned. The skin needs at least 30 days to start “feeling” the effects of any product, so compulsively trying new things every couple of weeks is not the best technique. When you start new skincare routine, you should commit to it for at least 30 days before judging the results and considering to change it.

So, I went online and asked my followers for their best hydration recommendations. Without further ado, here’s what they recommend (you can click on the products to learn more or buy them):

Chanel, Hydra Beauty Micro Crème

Chanel is one of the brands that invests the most in research and this Camellia-based moisturiser cream is super light and fresh (I have tried it before).

La Roche-Posay, Hyalu B5 Serum

One of the best sellers in France. It’s also suitable for sensitive skins.

Skinceuticals, Hydrating B5

One of the best examples of you get what you pay for. Expensive? Yes. Worth it? YES.

SVR, Hydracid C20 Crème

Anti-oxidant, anti-wrinkles formula with 20% vitamin C.

Uriage, Peeling Night Cream

It eliminates spots, hydrates and protects the skin from polluters in the environment. To be used only once or twice a week.

Youth to the People, Superfood Cleanser

Cleaning your skin is important… why not hydrate it while you do it? I’ve never had a more enthusiastic recommendation for a cleanser in my life!

Neocell, Hyaluronic Acid Blueberry Liquid

Instead of putting in on your face, why not drink it?
Beauty comes from the inside, after all!

In case you’re wondering, I’m going to try the Chanel Hydra Beauty Micro Cream. I’ll stick to it for a month and we’ll see where I’m at then!

I’ll be sharing my road to moisture on my Instagram, so be sure to follow me on my personal account.

Until next time!
